Gilded Cage by Terryann Nikides

Gilded Cage — A New Song About Freedom

I’m delighted to share my new song, “Gilded Cage.” It is a reflection on the invisible cages we can create around ourselves—and the inner courage it takes to open the door, spread our wings, and choose freedom. Listen below.

[Chorus]

Tragedy looms, a forced hand deals

Strength undoes what the heavens sealed

The strongest voices, a rising plea

From the weakest souls, yearning to be free

The strongest hold a truth untold

While the weakest stumble, brave and bold

A strange, eerie screech, unbound and raw

She lays in the soil, defying every law

Awaiting those she drew to her side

As she cleaves to her master, with nowhere to hide

His graciousness unrelenting, a gilded cage

Her unacknowledged frailty, turning a new page

Wielding a sword she can barely lift

Her breast heaves, a dangerous gift

Decapitating the hand that once fed

Leaving us to wonder, what lies ahead?

Where have we gone, from paths we once knew?

Was it not that women, saw clearer through?

Woe to us all, for thoughts so strange and deep

As the seeds of chaos, begin to creep.
